About Wild Soul Art

My paintings are born out of a process of allowing my inner landscapes – my visual and feeling responses to real world outer landscapes - to express freely on canvas. As well as being spellbound by the beauty and fascination of individual form, I am deeply inspired by my experience of the essence of each subject – which I call ’soul’.

Most of my work relates to the natural world in some way. My focus is wide and can be sporadic – an intense interest in skies ebbs, and suddenly water landscapes are calling. Or earth: desert, beach, forest, swamp, mountain, amazing colour and textures changing with the seasons, unpredictable, mysterious and compelling.  And beyond earth… I’ve been attracted by the idea of ‘outer space’ since I was very small, which might explain why a whole series of paintings was inspired by the Hubble telescope pictures!

I love to paint and draw freely, letting images spill out from my unconscious. I do this by dropping deeper into my physical body, becoming more aware of subtleties of sensation and emotion, and thought. I don’t really know how to describe this process, except that it feels like tuning in to a deeper, more intuitive self, a self that knows how to let what ‘wants to be painted’ flow out onto canvas. I love to create in this way. It feels like home.

About my creative process:

I use being in nature, meditation, free movement and dreamwork to help me see and feel my world more deeply. Visual appreciation, feeling and insights weave together and transform – through a mysterious process of alchemy - into colour, shape, texture, image… flowing onto the canvas… gradually settling. A new painting is born.
